Dunguaire Castle

Image
This is one of the walls at Dunguaire Castle in Kinvarra, Ireland.  Some minor edits were done with the Touch Retouch app to remove modern day elements like wires and lights.  Then the Formulas app was used to transport the castle back to an earlier time in history.

Bike Shadow

Image
Cycling in Oro Valley, Arizona and I noticed the angle of the sun on my wife’s purple bike.  I liked the shadow it produced so set the bike at the maximum shadow angle and took the photo.  The Color Accent app was used to remove all colours in the photo except the purple bike.

Fork Lift

Image
This month’s photo assignment from the Grimsby Photography Group is about simplicity and negative space.  The black and white egg on forks or - as I call it - “Fork Lift” will be one of my two submissions.  It is one of my favourite recent photos and so I chose this one to post on my birthday.

Lady of the Copper Mine

Image
Having fun with a number of editing apps on my iPad, I superimposed this ghostly image of my pals’s great grandmother over a photo a took two weeks ago while hiking to an old copper mine.  Editing was done with Snapseed, SuperimposeX, DistressedFX, and Mextures.

Golf Course Coyote

Image
This coyote needed some encouragement to vacate the green so that our group could finish the hole.  Colours were modified in the original photo using the iColorama app.

Coloured Strings

Image
While searching for subjects to photo with my new macro lens, I happened upon a ball of coloured strings.

Mountain View

Image
This is a photo of my neighbour sitting at his favourite spot on the  saddle of Ragged Top Mountain.  From this vantage point he can enjoy the mountain view while watching for big horn sheep. For a change of pace, I used the MySketch app to make the photo into sketch art.

Crested Saguaro, Phoenix

Image
We happened upon this crested saguaro cactus while strolling through the Desert Botanical Garden for the Chihuly in the Desert art exhibition.

Sol del Citron

Image
This beautiful blown glass masterpiece was created in 2014 by artist Dale Chihuly and he calls it “Sol del Citron”. It is currently on display at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix.

Mountain Lyin’

Image
Here is a mountain lion walking into a cave.  The mountain lion photo was shot at the Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum.  The cave is actually an entrance to an old mine where I was hiking last week.  The SuperimposeX app was used to put the two together and the DistressedFX app was used to alter the colours in the photo.

Lime and Lava

Image
This very tall blown glass artwork is at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix.  It was created by artist Dale Chihuly in 2021 and is called “Lime and Lava Red Tower”.

Candle Macro

Image
In keeping with the red theme of this week, here is a recent macro photo of a red candle.  Taking the photo was tricky as I had to get close to the subject because of the macro lens, but didn’t want to damage the phone or lens with the heat from the candle.

Red Reeds

Image
Red Reeds is a blown glass creation by Dale Chihuly.  The work was done in 2016 and is on display at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, Arizona.

Raspberries

Image
There’s something about the shallow depth of field plus amazing close up details that makes me really enjoy macro photography.

Cactus Valentine

Image
Today is February 14 and here is a cactus valentine for Valentines Day.

Queen of Hearts

Image
This macro photo is in honour of February being Heart Month and, of course, tomorrow being Valentines Day.

Sunburst

Image
I have plenty of apps that I can use to add sunbursts and other elements in the sky.  None, however, were used in this photo taken yesterday while hiking up Ragged Top mountain in Arizona.  Other than the watermark signature, this is the photo as it came out of the iPhone.

Close Up Fork

Image
Further to yesterday’s macro photo of a spoon, here is a black & white macro photo of a fork.

Polka Dot Spoon

Image
This is what you get when you lay a spoon on an iPad displaying a polka dot image and then shoot with macro.  Who knew kitchen utensils could be so much fun!

Looking for the Roadrunner?

Image
This good-sized coyote was on the third green as we drove up in our golf carts yesterday. He eventually moved off slowly so that we could take over the green and hit our putts.

Cactus Garden

Image
With a mountain view in the background, this foreground cactus garden contains a variety of cacti including cholla, saguaro, and prickly pear.

Pair of Pencil Crayons

Image
Macro photo of a pair of pencil crayons with the SuperimposeX app used to add the background colours.

Purple Feather

Image
Having fun with my new Moment macro lens on my iPhone.  I will post additional macro shots, with other subjects, in the coming days and weeks,

Teddy Bear Cholla

Image
The Teddy Bear Cholla has such a gentle, welcoming name.  Don’t go near it.  This cactus will stab you just as badly as any of the other cholla cacti!

Tunnel Vision

Image
The intention of the photo is to show a main course of suspense and hesitation with a side order of wonder (how did she get there and why is she alone).  It was created with the SuperimposeX app.  The background is a tunnel in an archeological location in Ireland.  The young lady is standing on a pitcher's mound in Ontario Canada where she is preparing to throw the ball.

New Macro Lens

Image
Trying out my new macro lens on my iPhone and here is one of my first shots.  There will be more macro shots coming every few days as I continue to experiment with new macro ideas.

Lorikeet is Watching

Image
This Lorikeet is watching you.  He’s looking for a treat from his perch at Rooster Cogburn’s Ostrich Ranch in Picacho, Arizona.

Tall Cacti

Image
These tall organ pipe cacti lead the eyes all the way to the sky! Photo was taken at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix. Very minimal edits were needed.
