Piano Keyboard

Image
The Prisma app was used on this photo to give an artful look to this shot of a piano keyboard.

Pink Sunset

Image
Following yesterday’s stormy day (rain, hail, thunder, lightning) was this lovely sunset.  Now heading north to Canada, it was a nice send off.

Watching You

Image
As I went out to pick up my newspaper yesterday morning, I saw this guy staring at me.  I asked him to hold the pose while I went back inside to get my iPhone and open the macro setting in the Camera+ 2 app. I guess he wanted his picture taken as he stayed there watching my every move.

Coyote Crossing

Image
This handsome fellow walked right past my golf cart,  completely ignoring all the humans around as well as ignoring golf etiquette!

Summer Day

Image
I realize that we’ve only just started springtime but it’s not too early to start planning for summer fun. I know that because this dock needs to get set up for the new season and it’s owner has already contacted me to give him a hand.

Lonely Road

Image
This cyclist is heading along a lonely Arizona road.  Given where he is in the middle of the road, he’s lucky this road is not a truck route!

Big Yellow Flower

Image
Here’s another spring flower taken last week as the Arizona desert begins its colourful bloom.

Travel Memories

Image
This shot of a gondolier in Venice reminds me of what travel was like B.C. (Before Covid).  It was so much simpler then to book travel and take travel.  It was also more predictable and less expensive.  Longing to get back to travelling somewhere!

Evening Reflections

Image
During a recent stay at the beautiful Omni resort in Tucson I happened upon this view of their swimming pool. The flames on the torches in behind provided great reflections.

Sand Sculpture

Image
As a change from spring flower photos, here is an amazing sand sculpture I happened upon one day.

Barrel Cactus

Image
The blooms on the top of this barrel cactus are just getting ready to pop.  I’ll have to keep an eye on this over the next week or so.  Plenty of cacti species are starting to bloom in the neighborhood.  Springtime brings with it lots of colour.

Spring has Sprung

Image
Spring has arrived and - with it - the colours and smells of spring flowers. Happy Spring!

Light Bulb

Image
So there I was with a burnt out light bulb and I had an idea: photograph it! The reflection in the bulb is the tree out the side window.  Minimal edits to the original.

Barrel Racing

Image
The MySketch app was used to frame up this photo of a barrel racing competitor at the Tucson Rodeo. The photo was taken from the stands using an iPhone.

Spring Flowers

Image
All winter the ocotillo plants in Arizona look like collections of dead sticks.  As Spring approaches leaves begin to appear on the sticks and flowers grow at the ends.  Spring must be getting close!

Shiny Stones

Image
Admittedly nothing too exciting about this photograph, but if you like shiny stones then this one is for you.

Shark!

Image
This ‘under the sea’ shot was taken at an aquarium and the iColorama app was used to alter the colouring from the original.

Little Italy

Image
Here is a scene from a midweek evening in the Little Italy area of San Diego.  There was a Saturday night buzz in the area as people walked around and the local visited bars and restaurants.

Red Rock Tower

Image
I stopped yesterday to shoot this water tower by the railway line near Red Rock Arizona.  To give a more dated look I used the Orange Zest preset in the Formulas app.

Snack Time

Image
Time for some fruit to get through to next meal.

Omni Resort

Image
A fabulous birthday present from my family was a round of golf at Tucson National and a stay at the Omni Tucson National Resort.  Here is a night shot of the pool and the resort’s main building.  It is an excellent resort with friendly, helpful staff.  The golf course was in pristine condition, even after last week’s Cologard Classic tournament was held there.  Truly a wonderful way to celebrate a birthday!

We Three Palms

Image
Passed by these lovely palm trees while on a road trip to California last week.

Blue Angels

Image
While passing through El Centro on a road trip last week, we looked up to see a squadron of US Navy Blue Angels practicing their flight routines.  From the passenger seat of the car, I shot this photo with my iPhone as the planes shot across in front of us.  Underneath each wing of each plane, in yellow letters, is “U.S. Navy”.  This aerobatic team was founded in 1946 and currently flies single seat F/A-18E Super Hornet aircraft.

Rest Stop

Image
Landscape shots can be much more interesting when you have a human in the photo. I need to include more people in my photos.  Here’s an example from a walk yesterday.

Soap Bubble

Image
This is my first attempt at soap bubble photography.  It’s more challenging with an iPhone as I have less control over things like lightning and remote flash units.  However, it is fun to try.  This bubble was made from water, dish soap and some glycerin.  The glycerin holds the bubble in place longer than just a regular dish soap bubble.  I’ve been too busy to play with bubbles since this first shot a few weeks ago.  Hopefully I can get back to it soon.

Dunluce Castle

Image
Dunluce Castle is a medieval castle in Northern Ireland, surrounded on either side by steep cliffs and accessible from the mainland by a bridge.  The first castle on this site was built in the 13th century.

Good morning, George

Image
This photo of a U.S. one dollar bill was taken with a Moment macro lens attached to my iPhone.  Good morning, George!

Pretty Houses

Image
These pretty houses in a row are in Greencastle, Northern Ireland.  Though not obvious from this angle, I took the shot hoping to see the different coloured doors.  I assume they do this so that residents on their way home from an evening at the pub will be able to find the right house.

Petroglyph

Image
Interesting design in this petroglyph artwork.  DistressedFX was used to add some colour and texture to the original photo.

Giant’s Causeway

Image
One of my favourite sights on a visit to Northern Ireland was the spectacular Giant’s Causeway.  According to Wikipedia, “ Giant's Causeway  is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic fissure eruption”.

Purple Porta Potty

Image
While out driving with some friends, I was looking for a good photo subject for this month’s negative space photo challenge.  I was looking for a tree or cactus alone in a big field.  One of the people in the car spotted the purple porta potty in the middle of a very empty space.  Why was it here???? Apps used to further highlight the purple box included Snapseed, Color Accent, and Touch Retouch.
